Presented during the group exhibitions L’amitié, ce tremble at CRAC Alsace and Crédac

For the L’amitié, ce tremble exhibition at CRAC Alsace and Crédac, Jean-Luc Godard sent a weekly postcard to his friend Boris Achour. These cards continue the ongoing News from Friends series, initiated in 2016 during the 12XU exhibition at Galerie Allen and continued during La vie des tables, at Crédac.

Translation of the text on the back of the 12 cards : « (card 1) Dearest Boris. You know that I won’t be able to make it to the CRAC and tremble with you… BUT, But, since there’s “AMIS” in “IMAGES”, here’s a first one, (card 2) and as, art is the continuation of childhood by other means, and vice versa…, (card 3) and as, you can’t speak for childhood (you have to speak its language), and it’s this forgotten language, this language that I seek from work to work… (card 4) and as solitude isn’t isolation, we’re always two in one, there are others inside us, but… (card 5) since all those who lack imagination take refuge in reality, (card 6) that beauty is the splendor of truth, (card 7) and the metaphor of truth, a child at play, (card 8) … since each event transforms my daily life, since I constantly fail to communicate…, I mean to understand, to love, to make myself loved… and since each failure makes me feel my solitude, since, (card 9) …since I am not allowed either to rise to being, or to fall into nothingness…, I must listen, I must look around me more than ever… the world… my fellow man, my brother… (card10) and I, like you, see the human form more and more clearly, (card 11) everything is in motion, you just have to keep moving to live, (card 12) to go straight ahead towards everything you love. Translation of the text on the back of the 12 cards : « (card 1) Dear Boris, you know very well that I won’t be able to go to CRÉDAC and tremble in friendship with you, (card 2) but since there is AMIS in IMAGES, I have chosen (as a consolation) to send you a few, (card3) images, memories of the zone you’ve decided to venture into, (card 4) this zone of movement, light, roses, colors and childhood, (card 5) that zone where everything that exists is without a why, (card 6) Twelve images, then, to tell you something that, of course, cannot be said or written, but only experienced, (card 7) twelve images, then, for the remaining hours, (card 8) to keep learning the craft of living, (card 9) to persevere in moving forward, (card 10) and since it’s never too late to take your first steps, (card 11) and that our ambition is inversely proportional to our modesty (card 12) then … JLG. »
